Obituary: Cooper, Duane Alvin

COOPER, Duane Alvin (Age 35) Passed away January 24, 2015 in Tacoma, WA.

He was born November 27, 1979 in Chewelah, WA to Alvin and Pearl (Lindstrom) Cooper.

He attended North Central High School in Spokane and then went on to work for the City of Spokane at the age of 20 where he worked in various positions in the Solid Waste Department for 15 years.

Duane married his soul mate, Ashlee, on June 13, 2004.

Together, they had two boys, Jayden and Mateo, who were his best friends.

Duane lived for his family and friends; there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them.

Duane was an avid gun collector who loved the outdoors.

He enjoyed camping, golfing, shooting guns, and playing pool - and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

He cheered for the Seahawks every Sunday.

Duane was a member of Local 270 and was passionate about the labor movement and worker’s rights.

He co-founded the Spokane chapter of WA-Yell.

He was also a member of community organizations where he fought for equality and justice.

He is survived by his wife Ashlee Cooper and sons Jayden, 15, and Mateo, 10 of Spokane; his mother Pearl Doherty of Corpus Christi, TX; father Alvin Cooper and his wife Ellen of Loon Lake, WA; grandmother Alice Cooper of Addy, WA; mother and father-in-law Cleta and Lyle Amsden of Spokane; sister Margo Cooper and her husband Mike, and their children his niece Alyssa, and nephews Collin, Josh and Michael John of Corpus Christi, TX; brother Billy Cooper and his husband Jason of Gladstone, MO; sister-in-law Erica Amsden and her husband Shane of Spokane and numerous close cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Grandpa Cooper along with many other loved ones.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3PM Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Heritage Chapel with a gathering to celebrate Duane’s life to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Duane Cooper Family Memorial Fund at the Spokane Teacher’s Credit Union.
