Speak out on ‘ag-gag’

Rep. Joe Schmick is pushing an anti-whistleblower bill, known as “ag-gag,” to criminalize undercover investigations of factory farms. Whistleblowing employees at factory farms are imperative for the exposure of animal abuse, poor working conditions and environmental hazards caused by the agricultural industry.

In 2010, the Humane Society reported salmonella-promoting conditions at Iowa egg farms, leading to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation, and the largest egg recall in U.S. history. Waste lagoons of industrial dairy farms are leaking nitrates, antibiotic residue and harmful bacteria into Washington groundwater. Unspeakable abuses of animals have been captured on camera and led to criminal prosecutions that would not have been sought otherwise.

The sole purpose of ag-gag is to keep people in the dark. Please voice your opposition to ag-gag. It’s not just an animal issue; it’s a public health and human rights issue.
