Students earn Lego challenge award

Students from Farwell Elementary School and Northwood Middle School were recently awarded the Robot Obstacle Course Award and the Teamwork Presentation Award at the 2014-15 First Lego League Challenge’s Washington State Championship Tournament in Ellensburg.

The Super Garfields team members were Lauren Champlin of Northwood, and Daniel and Drew Champlin, Ethan Ingalls, Garrett Jarvis and Jake Gendreau, all from Farwell.

The group was judged based on a research project presentation, teamwork presentation and exercise, a robot obstacle course and a robot design defense presentation using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 kit.

The team’s project thesis was “How to Get Students to Ask More Questions.” The students began researching in March and designing and programming in August. They put 400 combined hours into their presentation and the Lego robot.
