Prep wrestling: Mt. Spokane bars Mead from tie for GSL title

Gentry Shumaker pinned State 4A participant Hunter King at 132 pounds Wednesday as Mt. Spokane prevented Mead from taking a share of the Greater Spokane League wrestling title with a 42-29 win at Mead, which had never lost to the Wildcats.

Mead finished 7-2 in league duals, tied with Central Valley and one behind University.

Fourth-ranked Rich Bondurant of Mt. Spokane edged sixth-ranked Christian Hunter 3-2 at 145. At 285, Mt. Spokane’s Garret Johnson pinned Jayson Goodman in 3 minutes, 43 seconds.

Mt. Spokane (5-3) faces Gonzaga Prep today to cap the league season.

Ferris 53, Lewis and Clark 15: Stephen Giles (182) reversed a December loss to Kaden Templeton with a pin as the host Saxons (4-5) beat the Tigers (5-4). Ferris’ Donovin McElliott (195) rallied from a 6-4 third-period deficit to pin Jermaine Ducham.

Rogers 49, Gonzaga Prep 26: Zachery Hernandez (120) pinned Chris Tillson in 5:12, one of six pins for the visiting Pirates (1-8) in their win over the Bullpups (0-8).

Inland Empire 5A

Coeur d’Alene 39, Lake City 31: Mario Peregrina (138) pinned David Rusche in 58 seconds in the final match as the visiting Vikings defeated the Timberwolves for the Terhark Cup.

CdA’s Jordan Dean (220) defeated Ron Schmidt 13-7. LC’s Nathan Lambert (132) edged Chase Baca 2-1.

Post Falls 51, Lewiston 32: The host Trojans defeated the Bengals. No details were reported.
