EWU football coach Beau Baldwin provided raise

Even though he was mentioned as a candidate at other schools, Eastern Washington University football coach Beau Baldwin has signed a new 5-year contract, worth an additional $45,293 annually, to remain in Cheney.

According to documents obtained this week from EWU Human Resource Services, Baldwin’s contract will pay him $212,717 a year, plus additionally approved increases.

The contract was finalized earlier this month and was signed by Baldwin, athletic director Bill Chaves and university president Mary Cullinan.

It replaces a 5-year contract that began on Jan. 1, 2012 and was amended twice, most recently a year ago. During that time, Baldwin’s annual base salary increased from $140,000 in 2012, to $157,000 in 2013 and to $167,420 in 2014.

The new deal, which runs through 2019, also includes $10,000 annual increases each year. Barring further revisions, his base salary would reach $262,717 in 2019.

As in previous contracts, it contains performance bonuses, including $2,000 for winning the Big Sky Conference championship; $2,000 for each win in the first three rounds of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs; $4,000 for winning an FCS semifinal game, and $10,000 for winning the FCS title.

Academic performance bonuses include $4,000 for each year in which at least 75 percent of football players graduate within five years of their original enrollment while participating in football in four of those years.

Attendance bonuses include $2,000 if paid gate receipts (including season tickets) reach at least $150,000.

Throughout December, Baldwin was mentioned as a candidate for several coaching vacancies, including Oregon State and Colorado State.

Neither Baldwin nor Athletic Director Bill Chaves were available for comment on the contract.
