In brief: Appleway Trail celebration July 9

APPLEWAY TRAIL – The city of Spokane Valley is unveiling the Appleway Trail at a free celebration from 10 a.m. to noon July 9. Mayor Dean Grafos will preside over the festivities, which include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a 1-mile fun walk on the trail.

The first 100 fun walk participants will receive a prize.

Events take place at the trail’s University Plaza entrance, at the intersection of Appleway Boulevard and University Road.

Fun Fridays offered in July

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley is celebrating Parks and Recreation month in July with a series of Fun Friday in the Parks events.

The schedule is available at www.spokanevalley.org/ parkpassport.

Participants may pick up a Park Passport at the link above, or at City Hall, CenterPlace or Park Road, Terrace View or Valley Mission Pool. Bring your passport to every event and return it to be entered in a drawing for a swim pass.

Free drop-in park programs are offered Monday through Thursday through Aug. 13.

Programs feature meals for children 18 or younger, as well as games and crafts.

At Edgecliff Park, 800 S. Park Road, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch from 12:30-1 p.m.

At Terrace View Park, 13525 E. 24th Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon with breakfast from 9-9:30 a.m. and lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m.

At Valley Mission Park, 11123 E. Mission Ave. from 9 a.m. to noon with breakfast from 9-9:30 a.m.
