In brief: Claims board seeks volunteer member

SPOKANE - Spokane County is looking for a fifth volunteer to sit on a board reviewing medical claims of retired law enforcement and firefighters.

The position on the law enforcement officers and firefighters disability board is open to any resident of the county. The board meets on the first Friday of every month at 8:30 a.m. in the County Commissioners’ Conference Room at the Spokane County Courthouse, 1116 W. Broadway Ave.

The main task of the board is to examine claims that are not covered by insurance from former officers and firefighters on state-established retirement plans, and evaluate them for assistance, said Nancy Voermans with Spokane County.

Those interested in the position should apply with Voermans by calling (509) 477-2267. Current board members will select from the applications. The position is unpaid, and applications must be received by July 17.
