In brief: Woman wins home in NIC fundraiser

A woman from Liberty Lake claimed the really big prize Wednesday in the North Idaho College Foundation’s annual fundraiser.

Judy Felice won a home built by NIC’s carpentry program at 4261 W. Woodhaven Loop in Coeur d’Alene.

Other winners of the Really Big Raffle were: Margaret Polla, of Mullan, Idaho, who won a $20,000 car; Ashley Duchow-Moore, of Coeur d’Alene, who won a $10,000 boat; Roman Reyes, of Emmett, Idaho, who won a $3,500 vacation package; and Carol Peterlin, of Dunsmuir, California, who won a $2,000 shopping spree.

Suspect identified in fatal hit-and-run

A Spokane man was arrested Tuesday evening in Kitsap County in connection with fatal hit-and-run crash Saturday.

John Charles McGinty Jr., 39, was arrested while visiting family over the holiday weekend, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said. McGinty was charged Wednesday with felony hit-and-run causing death.

Jordan Dale Adams-Wickham, 23, was on foot when he was struck about 3 a.m. Saturday in Indianola, about 5 miles south of Kingston, Washington, officials said.

A 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo matching the description of the car in the fatality was found at a nearby house with the suspect.

McGinty’s driver’s license, issued on May 27, lists an address on East Sumac Drive in Spokane. The Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office lists a Tulalip, Washington, address for him.

Spokane man suspected

of setting two CdA fires

Coeur d’Alene police arrested a Spokane man on two counts of third-degree arson Wednesday.

Alec T. Malinak, 18, is suspected of setting fires Wednesday morning in trash bins at the Coeur d’Alene City Library and nearby at the base of Tubbs Hill.

Malinak admitted to police he was in both locations when the fires were lit, and he had ash on his shirt and soot on his hands, police Sgt. Christie Wood said. He also was charged with possession of a concealed weapon – a 12-inch butterfly knife.

Officers responded to the library, at 702 E. Front Ave., at 12:20 a.m. for a dumpster fire. Other officers found a trash can on fire near Tubbs Hill on the Third Street side of the park.
