Hillsboro’s Miller stops Indians with four-hitter

Hillsboro’s Jared Miller pitched the Northwest League’s first complete game this season and the Hops beat the Spokane Indians 5-1 on Friday night. Miller (5-0) gave up one unearned run on four hits while walking one, striking out eight and lowering his league-leading ERA to 0.77 over 35 innings. Miller, who began the year in the Midwest League, also beat the Indians at Spokane on June 19, striking out nine in six innings in a 10-3 win. Hillsboro’s Nate Robertson, who came in hitting .153 in 59 at-bats, was 3 for 3 with a homer. Indians starter Cody Palmquist (1-1) lasted four innings, giving up six hits, a walk and four earned runs while fanning four. Hillsboro scored in the first when Zach Nehir doubled and scored on a Stephen Dezzi’s single. The Hops added another run in the second on Robertson’s second home run of the year. The Hops made it 4-0 in the fourth. With two outs, Robertson doubled, Alexis Olmeda singled and Sergio Alcantara drove in both with a hit. Hillsboro’s final run came in the sixth against reliever Jason Richman. Robertson singled with two outs, stole second and scored on Olmeda’s single. Spokane scored its lone run in the seventh. Leon Byrd singled to center and reached second on a throwing error. He went to third on wild pitch and scored on Carlos Garay’s ground out. Indians outfielder LeDarious Clark went hitless in consecutive games for the first time this season. His average dipped to .391.
