Say no more to STA

In April, the Spokane Transit Authority asked us to approve a tax increase to help with rising transit costs. Thankfully, that was voted down (for now). The residents of Spokane already support the STA through taxes and other government-assisted programs, and STA has no intention of re-evaluating how it operates to cut the waste of taxpayer funds.

My question is this: When have you seen one of those gas-guzzling monstrosities loaded with fare-paying individuals? Answer: Never. Those non-eco-friendly behemoths rarely have more than six passengers on them at any given time (check them out when you drive by one).

My issue isn’t with the drivers, because they deserve to have a well-paying job to support their families. My problem is with the entire STA board. Rather than scale back the sizes of the buses to make them more economical and cost-effective when it comes to maintenance, they would rather continue to beg for handouts from taxpayers so that seven people don’t have to sit next to one another. Think about it, Spokane. Just say “No more!”
