Obituary: Dunham, James Robert
A 1970 graduate of Mead High School and 1973 graduate of Eastern Washington University, James went on to teach school and coach numerous sports in Pilot Rock, Oregon from 1974-1976.
He returned to Spokane and began a career in general contracting and custom home construction.
He was married to Karen McDonald in 1973, with whom he had two children, Jason and Marla Dunham.
After returning to Spokane, Jim and Karen divorced.
Jim met his current wife, Lou, while playing co-ed soccer.
The couple were married in 1989 and they welcomed their son Kevin in 1993.
Jim was a man of many passions, including watching, playing and coaching sports, as well as a lifelong interest in design, architecture, and after a recent trip to New York, performing arts.
Jim was fascinated with flight, including parasailing on Loon Lake, skydiving, and paragliding in Golden, Colorado.
Some of his other hobbies included playing co-ed soccer, spending time at Loon Lake, playing rounds of golf with his friends and family, and playing co-ed softball.
He is survived by his wife Lou, his children Jason, Marla, and Kevin, and his four grandchildren, who were the joy of his life.
His creative sense of design was expressed in the unique homes he built and the craftsmanship he put into each one.
His favorite thing was making people laugh and his happiness in life was only eclipsed by the happiness he brought others.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Spokane Youth Sports Association/Spokane Indians Youth Softball Krista L. Baker Girls Softball Financial Assistance Fund, 800 N. Hamilton, Suite 201, Spokane, WA, 99202; www.sysa.com, www.siyb.com A service is planned for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hennessey Funeral Home on Division, with an informal celebration of life following.
As was Jim’s style, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Hawaiian or lake shirt in memoriam.
