Obituary: Winter, Bill G.

WINTER, Bill G. (Age 70) Bill passed away July 10, 2015 at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Spokane, WA.

He was born in Hartley, Iowa, in 1945 to Bill and Ardyce Winter.

He attended country school growing up in May City, Iowa then attended high school in Round Lake, Minnesota.

Bill was drafted into the United States Army in 1965 and trained in San Antonio, Texas as a Medical Specialist, with advanced medical training at Madigan Hospital, Tacoma, Washington before being deployed.

He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with the “V” Device for his acts of heroism while a medic with the infantry in the Central Highlands region of Vietnam.

After discharge in 1967 he married Karen Foster.

They eventually settled in Pleasanton, California, where Bill and Karen owned and operated a general contracting business and raised their three children.

In 2008 they retired and moved to Spokane where they enjoyed living in a country setting, he was able to enjoy his dream of working in his shop, helping others, and enjoy the friendship and fellowship of his new and old friends.

They all enriched his life.

He often remarked that these were some of the best years of his life.

Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen; daughter Jennifer (Aaron) and children Cole, Connor, and Katri of Snohomish, WA; son Eugene (Kimberly) and daughters Emily and Katie of Liberty Lake, WA; daughter Jessica and daughter Neva of Sadalia, MO; sisters Rona (Roland) Moore, Colleen (Bob) Oldefendt, both of Owatonna, MN and Vicki Bergjord of Sioux Falls, SD; Aunt Lois Donnenwerth of May City, IA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many more dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Ardyce Winter, of Worthington, MN and niece Tracy Dean, of Owatonna, MN.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17, 2015 at 2:00pm in the Colonial Chapel at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home in the Spokane Valley.

A committal service honoring Bill’s military service will be Monday July 20, 9:00am at the Washington Veterans Cemetery near Medical Lake, WA.
