Ice cream team leads Umpqua Bank pro-am

The sponsor team from Umpqua Ice Cream/Ice Cream Spec won the first round of the Umpqua Bank Pro-Am today at the Rosauers Open Invitational at Indian Canyon Golf Course on Wednesday.

PGA professional Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Washington, led the team with amateurs Jim Myrick, Tony Williams, Dave Copas and Bruce Graber with a score of 109 in the best 2 of 5 net team competition (35 under par).

PGA pro Derek Barron of Tacoma Golf Center won the low professional honors after shooting a course record 59, 13-under par.  PGA pro Darren Black of Rainier G&CC in Seattle was second after firing a 9-under-par 63.  The previous course record was 61.  Barron’s round consisted of  three eagles, eight birdies and a bogey.

The Rosauers Open Invitational will continue today with the final round of the Umpqua Bank Pro-Am.  The Rosauers Open Invitational will start on Friday with tee times ranging from 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Indian Canyon.
