Late rally lifts Indians over Boise

BOISE – The Spokane Indians snapped a two-game losing streak on Sunday, scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning to reverse an earlier blown lead and beat the Boise Hawks 10-9 at Memorial Stadium. Trailing 9-7, Jamie Potts led off the top of the ninth with a walk off Boise reliever Cristian Quintin (2-3), then went to second on a Sherman Lacus single. Tyler Sanchez followed with a line drive double to left that plated both runners. Sanchez moved to third on a sacrifice by Todd McDonald, then scored the go-ahead run on Connor McKay’s RBI single. Jason Richman and Kohsuke Tomita combined for an anxious ninth inning as the tying run reached third base on a walk, sacrifice, stolen base and hit batter, but Tomita coaxed a fly ball from Hamlet Marte to earn his first save. The Indians (15-16) led 7-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, but reliever Dario Beltre was hit hard – and got unlucky – as the Hawks (11-19) rallied for four runs in the frame to go ahead 9-7. Marcos Derkes greeted the reliever with his first home run of the season. With one out, Max White tripled, then scored on Carlos Herrera’s infield single. Tyler Follis then reached on a fielding error by shortstop Yeyson Yrizarri and Herrera went to third. Brian Mundell delivered a double to right, plating both Hawks runners. Reliever Tyler Davis (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning. Starter Luke Lanphere allowed four earned runs on five hits and a walk, striking out five. Dan Scheibe pitched three innings of one-hit, one-run relief before giving way to Beltre.
