Colleges

Chris Shane, a BYU graduate who most recently was an assistant at the University of San Francisco, has been hired as Eastern Washington University’s head cross country coach and coach of the distance runners for the track and field team.

He takes over a talented group of EWU distance runners for both the men and women. Last year, the women finished fourth at the Big Sky Conference Championships, equaling the team’s highest finish in program history. The men placed sixth, just eight points out of fourth place in the 12-team league.

Dylan Steen took a no-hitter into the ninth inning and the Bandits defeated Kelso 2-0.

The Northstars scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a four-run lead, then held on to defeat Centralia 7-6.
