Boost emergency services

I am writing today to voice my support for Proposition 1, the maintenance and operations levy for Spokane County Fire District 8. This levy will provide funding that I feel is important not only to maintain fire protection, but enhance emergency medical services within the district. Passing this levy will make sure each station is staffed with a paramedic and increase the overall response reliability within the district.

Because of cutbacks, not all of our stations have a paramedic on duty around the clock. Paramedics receive advanced training in life-saving techniques. They can establish airways, administer certain medications and start IVs. Having a paramedic answering your emergency call is like getting the emergency room right out to the site. This increases the chances of saving a life.

To me, as a member of this community, I would like to expect that each station had a paramedic on duty at all times. I hope more of the community will join me in voting yes on Proposition 1 in Spokane County.
