Support fire levy
I had the opportunity to participate in the May 30 Fire Ops 101 program hosted by Spokane County Fire District 8 and the Spokane Valley Fire Department. The program was designed to allow community members to “step into the shoes” of a firefighter for a day. I was able to develop a better understanding of the dangerous, labor intensive and time-critical work performed each day by firefighters.
The experience was excellent and it has prompted me to write this letter to the editor to express my respect for the fine professionals who provide a much-needed public service. I have always had a deep respect for the great men and women who are firefighters and my experience with Fire Ops 101 has galvanized my thoughts.
Being able to take on the role of a firefighter has allowed me to appreciate and understand this very professional group of public servants. I trust that you will acknowledge and appreciate your local firefighters when you see them. Also, please join me in voting yes for the Proposition 1 maintenance and operation levy for Spokane County Fire District 8.
