Cold case murder suspect now charged with voyeurism

Spokane County Jail records indicate that cold case murder suspect Richard Aguirre is facing a new charge of voyeurism. Spokane Police Capt. Eric Olsen verified the new charge Thursday evening but said he was informed of it by investigators after business hours and had not seen any documentation. Aguirre, 51, served as a police officer in Pasco for 27 years before resigning earlier this year. Police say DNA left at the scene of the murder of Ruby Doss on Jan. 30, 1986 matches Aguirre. At the time, Aguirre was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. During a news conference Wednesday, Olsen said investigators had seized cellphones and computers that belonged to Aguirre. They found videotapes and other recordings that show sexual activities that suggest his possible involvement in other crimes, including rape and voyeurism, Olsen said Wednesday. Kennewick attorney Scott Johnson, who represents Aguirre, told the Tri-City Herald earlier this week that everything on the videos was consensual. “From what I know about the videos from my client, I have no understanding of how any criminal charges can come from any videos he has,” Johnson told the Herald. Aguirre also is facing a charge of third-degree rape in Kennewick. He was arrested by Spokane police officers Tuesday in a Kennewick courtroom as he appeared on that charge. Aguirre is being held in the Spokane County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond on a charge of first-degree murder. He is expected to make his first appearance in court on the voyeurism charge on Friday.
