Be open on street deal
We all read the news and react to it in different ways. We often have ideas we think are worth sharing. With regard to important issues like Syria and Iraq, how the future of our nation will be determined in the presidential election, and how we will conduct our foreign trade in the future, I have opinions that I often see stated.
However, letters reflecting my views on whether a little-used street in downtown Spokane should be vacated are not appearing. This transaction is merely a proposed land transfer between the city of Spokane and an auto dealership.
I have never bought a car there, nor do I know anybody who works there. I have just looked at the property and the surrounding area on Google Earth. For the general public, Madison Street can only be a way to turn around if you find yourself going the wrong way on Second or Third avenues.
Spokane should treat this as it would other transactions and get the best deal for the public. Take into account the benefits of having a strong business in that area and the loss of some parking spaces. Do the math. Be open.
