Recommended South African prison officials recommended that Oscar Pistorius be released from prison on Aug. 21 to go under house arrest. A prison committee recom- mended Pistorius be released from the prison in Pretoria after serving one sixth of his five-year sentence, or 10 months, for shooting girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. A decision by the parole board is pending. Pistorius was sentenced by a judge after being convicted of culpable homicide for killing Steenkamp.

Hired Iowa State hired Murray State’s Steve Prohm as its men’s basketball coach. Cyclones A.D. Jamie Pollard confirmed that Prohm will replace Fred Hoiberg, who left after five seasons to take over the Chicago Bulls. The 40-year-old Prohm was 104-29 in four years at Murray State.

Set A plea and arraignment hearing has been set for Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer. The case will be heard on July 29 in Fulton County State Court. Budenholzer faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol from an arrest Aug. 28, 2013.

• This year’s Foster Farms Bowl will be played on Dec. 26 at the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium. The game will pit the fourth selection from the Pac-12 Conference against an upper-echelon Big Ten team.

Extended The Mid-American Conference extended the contract of commissioner Jon Steinbrecher for three years. The extension runs through the 2019-20 academic year.

Named The Western Hockey League’s Prince Albert Raiders named Curtis Hunt the 10th general manager in franchise history. Hunt takes over for Bruno Campese, who left the team in May after eight seasons. Hunt spent last season as the general manager and head coach of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Sidelined Mississippi Rebels guard Stefan Moody is expected to be sidelined 8-12 weeks from the men’s basketball team because of a stress fracture in his lower left leg.
