In brief: Opening day free at Valley pools

SPOKANE VALLEY – Swimming is free on opening day at all three Spokane Valley pools beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Park Road Pool, 906 N. Park Road; Valley Mission Pool, 11123 E. Mission Ave.; and Terrace View Pool, 13525 E. 24th Ave., are all open from 1-5 p.m. and 5:30-8 p.m. on Saturday.

After opening day, admission to Valley pools is $1 per person. Children 5 and younger are admitted free and must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Pools are open daily 1-5 p.m. and 5:30 to 8 p.m. for open swim, with the following exceptions :

• Park Road – No evening sessions on Wednesday or weekdays Aug. 17-27. The pool closes Sept. 7.

• Valley Mission – No evening swim weekdays June 22-July 30. The pool closes Aug. 22.

• Terrace View – No evening sessions weekdays Aug. 3-27. The pool closes Sept. 7.

Anniversary party at animal shelter

SPOKANE VALLEY – SCRAPS is hosting a first anniversary party at the regional animal shelter.

Band Together for the Animals will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the shelter, 6815 E. Trent Ave.

The event will include self-guided tours of the building, seminars, door prizes, a quilt raffle and cake.

Gigantic yard sale in Liberty Lake

LIBERTY LAKE – The 22nd annual Liberty Lake Community Yard Sale is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event typically features sales at more than 200 homes. Food and vendors will be at Pavillion Park, Molter Road and Country Vista Drive.
