Shadow back in thick of things

News Services

Just like that, the Spokane Shadow are back in the race for the title it won last year.

After a win and a draw last weekend, the defending Evergreen Premier League champs are home for their next two matches.

Up first is a return match against South Sound. Tonight’s kickoff is at 7 at Spokane Falls Community College.

With a 3-1-2 record, the Shadow are beginning to look like last year’s team. Last week, they picked up four points with a scoreless draw at South South and a 3-0 win at Olympic in the first morning game in EPLWA history.

The Shadow are playing well on the road, where it’s 8-0-2 including last season.

“We stuck to what we’ve been working on,” coach Chad Brown said. “I am pleased with the guys and their performance to get points on the road two shutouts on the weekend is real good.”

Last week against South Sound, goalkeeper Tony Watters of Whitworth made his first start for the team and posted a shutout. Watters has yet to allow a goal in three appearances.

He played the second half in the 8-2 win at Wenatchee in the season opener in addition to nearly two complete games last weekend.

Another Whitworth product, Karl Muelheims, got the go-ahead goal in the win at Olympic.

Tonight’s game marks Referee Appreciation Night, with area referees receiving free admission by showing their official patch.

The Shadow are home on June 20 against Bellingham.
