Police: 4 hurt when gun goes off at Waldorf Astoria Hotel

Associated Press

NEW YORK – A wedding guest’s gun went off accidentally at New York’s swanky Waldorf Astoria Hotel and four people suffered minor injuries from debris, according to police.

The shooting happened at 7:25 p.m. Saturday in the Park Avenue hotel’s lobby. The wedding guest’s gun discharged and the bullet hit the floor, police said.

In a briefing in front of the hotel, Manhattan Chief of Detectives William Aubry said four people were hit by shrapnel from the bullet or debris such as marble or glass.

The shooter was placed under arrest. He was not immediately identified.

A Fire Department spokesman said the four victims were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.

The Waldorf Astoria is one of New York’s best-known hotels. It’s where the U.S. president stays during the United Nations General Assembly.
