In brief: Parks get 20 mph speed restrictions

SPOKANE – The city is reminding people to slow down around parks, playgrounds, splash pads, pools and libraries, especially as children start summer vacation.

New 20 mph speed limit signs have been posted at A.M. Cannon, Chief Garry, Lincoln, Mission and Shadle Park.

Signs will be installed soon at Audubon, Comstock and Hayes parks.

Manito, Comstock go car free tonight

SOUTH HILL – The annual Spokane Summer Parkways is tonight in the Manito and Comstock neighborhoods.

From 6 to 9 p.m., streets will be turned over to pedestrians, bicyclists, skaters and all other forms of human-powered transportation.

The 4-mile, car-free loop will have activities and booths, including a bike decorating contest at 7 p.m. at 32nd Avenue on the west side of Comstock Park.

Holy Names hosts band boot camp

SPOKANE – Holy Names Music Center together with Hoffman Music is conducting a Saturday band boot camp, which includes professional instruction and a loaner quality instrument, starting on June 20 and running through Aug. 22.

Class meets on Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 3910 W. Custer Drive. It costs $150 for most instruments.

Touchmark hosts car show Saturday

SOUTH HILL – Touchmark on South Hill is hosting a car show Saturday.

The show will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a hot dog lunch and music by Grand Avenue.

Touchmark is at 2929 S. Waterford Drive.

Exchange student hosts sought

SPOKANE COUNTY – World Heritage International is seeking families to host exchange students.

The students come from Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. All have received scholarships through the Future Leaders Exchange Program, sponsored by the U.S. State Department.

Presentation set on growing fruit

MANITO PARK – The Friends of Manito Park are putting on a free presentation on how to grow small fruits10 a.m. Saturday.
