A-Rod one away from 3,000th hit

Alex Rodriguez is one hit away from becoming the 29th player to reach No. 3,000. He’ll get his chance at Yankee Stadium against Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers ( 4 p.m., MLB). A-Rod got two hits Thursday night vs. Miami, then drew a four-pitch walk his last time up. With one more hit, the soon-to-be 40 Rodriguez will become the 29th player to join the elite club. In his rejuvenated return from a one-year drug suspension, Rodriguez got his 2,000th RBI last week to move into second place since the record was kept beginning in 1920 and passed Willie Mays for fourth on the homer list with No. 661. – Associated Press
