Better ways than begging

I agree with Phil Bergin on his June 15 letter about street corner solicitation. To me, it is no different than begging. I understand some of it, but not all.

When the school where I live wants to pay for a senior all-nighter, they stand on the corner with their caps and gowns and beg. They are no different than those veterans that solicit for money. I have checked with the school, and the principal is not involved. It is the PTA that found this to be an effective way of raising money. I resent this very much.

Have a car wash, bake sale or some other way to collect money rather than beg on the street corner. The same with stores. They ask you to donate to this, that and the other charity, and I highly resent being asked for money everywhere I go. No, I am not against donating, but my choices may not be their choices.
