Unions are the problem

Thank you, Rob Leach (June 16), for having the courage to say what most parents think. I come from a family of teachers, and I appreciate and respect the occupation. There are many talented and dedicated educators in our schools who do a good job.

However, our public schools continue to fail our society and our kids, while the teachers don’t ever seem to take any responsibility for the results. Their response is always “We need more money,” and “Parents are the problem.” The problem is unionized educators who are not held accountable for their performance in the classroom. If this country has a protected class, it is public school teachers.

It is time for serious reform of our public schools, but that will never happen as long as they are allowed to unionize an occupation that is so critical for our country. Maybe while they enjoy their excessive time off they can reflect on their personal performance and quit whining about their chosen occupation.

The rest of us have to produce results before we get a pay increase.
