MLB notes: Little leaguer Mo’ne Davis meets Braves’ slugger Hank Aaron

Hank Aaron can appreciate someone with the ability and fortitude to overcome challenges.

The Braves’ Hall of Fame slugger met Little League sensation Mo’ne Davis Tuesday and her youth league teammates, who got a tour of Turner Field.

Davis and the Anderson Monarchs, a Philadelphia youth baseball club, stopped in Atlanta as part of team’s three-week, 3,500-mile barnstorming tour to learn about the Civil Rights movement.

At 13, Davis was the first African-American girl to play in the Little League World series. She is the first girl to earn a win and pitch a shutout in the LLWS last summer.

Bishop rakes in batting practice

Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Ben Bishop can hit the long ball, too.

Bishop hit four home runs, including two in a row at one point, in batting practice before the Rays hosted the Blue Jays in St. Petersburg, Florida.

“I got a couple lucky swings,” he said. “You can definitely feel it when you hit it on the sweet spot and it goes. It was fun.”

Stanton sneaks into ASG starters

Major league home run leader Giancarlo Stanton has moved back into position to start in next month’s All-Star game.

The Miami slugger rose from fourth to second among NL outfielders in totals announced Tuesday, with San Francisco’s Nori Aoki dropping out of the top three.

Washington’s Bryce Harper leads NL outfielders with 9.2 million votes.
