Returning Boise State University has named a familiar face as athletic director to replace Mark Coyle: Carroll College Athletic Director Curt Apsey. Apsey served in the Boise State athletic department as senior associated athletic director from 1998 to 2014, serving as interim athletic director for four months before Coyle’s hire in December of 2011.

• The Cavaliers picked up center Timofey Mozgov’s $5 million contract option for next season. The 7-foot-1 Mozgov averaged 10.6 points and 6.9 rebounds in 45 starts for the Cavs, who acquired the rim-protecting big man after losing Anderson Varejao to a season-ending Achilles injury in January.

Hosting The Charlotte Hornets will host the 2017 All-Star game. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the announcement at a news conference at the team’s downtown arena. The Hornets last hosted an All-Star game in 1991 at the since-demolished Charlotte Coliseum. The game is scheduled for Feb. 19, 2017.

Increased The NHL salary cap for the 2015-16 season will be $71.4 million – a $2.1 million increase from this season. The cap floor – the minimum an NHL team must spend – will be $52.8 million.

Injured Cyclist Frank Schleck will not compete in the Tour de France because of injury. Schleck, a top-five Tour finisher three times, has chronic inflammation in his right knee.

• Golfer Fred Couples has withdrawn from the U.S. Senior Open because of a back injury. He missed the cut at the Masters and has not played in the last two months. Couples also pulled out of qualifying earlier this month for the U.S. Open, held outside his hometown of Seattle.

Hired Syracuse deputy athletic director and chief of staff for athletics Renee Baumgartner has been named Santa Clara’s new athletic director. Baumgartner will begin her new job July 8, replacing longtime athletic director Dan Coonan.
