Driver in crash near Athol faces manslaughter charge

Passenger pronounced dead on scene; driver had suspended license

A 34-year-old Coeur d’Alene man faces a criminal charge of vehicular manslaughter for the June 7 crash that killed his passenger on a service road north of Athol. Investigators have determined that Dustin W. Harrison was in the driver’s seat of his SUV when it flipped in the forested area of Bonner County, killing his passenger, Damian C. Johnson. Idaho State Police initially reported it was unclear who was driving. Johnson, 23, was ejected from Harrison’s 1995 Toyota 4Runner. He was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to English Funeral Home. Harrison was treated for injuries and released from Kootenai Medical Center. ISP reported neither man was wearing a seat belt. Harrison was not listed as an inmate in the Kootenai or Bonner county jails Thursday afternoon. In March, he was found guilty of driving with a suspended license.
