Shadow beat United, jump into 2nd place

Chance Bukoski and Matt Baringer scored in the second half and the Spokane Shadow moved into second place in the Evergreen Premier League soccer race Sunday with a 2-1 victory over host Yakima United at Marquette Stadium.

Bukoski got the game’s first goal, scoring in the 47th minute on a 25-yard shot into the upper corner of the net.

Baringer made it 2-0 in the 68th minute when he beat the goalie to a corner kick to the near post and headed it in.

Noe Meza’s free kick from 25 yards out in the 84th minute gave Yakima its only goal and spoiled Tony Watters’ shutout.

The Shadow (7-1-2) moved past Vancouver (7-3-1) in the EPLWA standings with 23 points. They trail first-place South Sound (7-1-3) by a point.

Spokane has four matches remaining. Its next one will comes against Wenatchee on July 11 at 7 p.m. at Spokane Falls CC.
