GU women eye third straight WCC tourney title

The Gonzaga women, who won the West Coast Conference regular season title for the 11th straight season, go after their seventh WCC women’s basketball tournament title in eight years, beginning Friday. The tournament begins Thursday at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Bulldogs (23-6, 16-2) play at noon Friday against the survivor of the eight-nine seed matchup between Loyola Marymount (6-23, 4-14) and Pepperdine (8-21, 3-15). The Lions and Waves play at noon Thursday. A win would put Gonzaga in a noon semifinal on Monday against the winner of Thursday’s 8 p.m. 4-5 game between Saint Mary’s (20-9, 13-5) and BYU (20-9, 12-6). The Zags have reached eight straight title games and won the last two. The final game is at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
