That’s News to you answers

Here are the answers to this week’s quiz:

1. C. “Birdman” was awarded best picture at the Oscars. “Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” also won best director for Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Inarritu, best original screenplay and best cinematography.

2. D. The private plane had taken off from Felts Field bound for Stockton, California. The plane lost power a short time after takeoff, hit the top of a BNSF railroad viaduct over North Erie Street and crumpled to the ground there, said Steve Sabo, Spokane Fire Department battalion chief. Michael Clements, of Stony Plain, Alberta, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

3. D. Joey Logano, the driver who has spent seven years trying to live up to impossible expectations, raced to his first career Daytona 500 victory.

Nicknamed “Sliced Bread” when he broke into the Sprint Cup Series at 18 because so many predicted him to be the next big thing, Logano is the second-youngest Daytona 500 winner in history, behind only Trevor Bayne, who was 20 when he pulled off an upset victory in 2011.

4. B. The Post Falls School District has a $19.5 million bond measure on the March 10 ballot.

5. A. The facility will treat only girls.

Washington has 246 beds to treat 12- to 18-year-olds for drug and alcohol addiction. Until now, only one-third of those inpatient slots have been for girls.

Daybreak Youth Services’ leadership is trying to balance the gender inequity by converting its inpatient treatment facility for adolescents to all girls, and adding 20 more beds to the state system.

Spokane will have half of the state’s beds for girls.
