Either/or thinking foolish

Many, many people in the last century became lost in the land of either/or. Such a foolish position to be shackled to. “Either we get rid of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, or else Saddam will bring an Islamic war to America: Which do you prefer?”

Thus, we have Dave Darlow (Feb. 23) “clarifying” that America’s dependence on fossil fuels must be tolerated for the foreseeable future. And those who think otherwise are fools.

Instruction: Pick apples or oranges; although we have both, you can only end up with one.

Anyone who has enjoyed fruit salad realizes such choices are unrealistic and generally unwelcome. I would insist on wider choices.

To set the rules, as Darlow has done, is to always win the argument against “fools.” Long-term planning without environmental countermeasures to avoid global warming will result in our species being thrown aside by nature, storms, etc. I hope that supporters of “fossil fuels only” will soon join me in having pleasurable dishes of fruit salad.
