Obituary: Fitzgerald, Robert Earl “Bob”

Age 84

FITZGERALD, Robert Earl “Bob” (Age 84) Lifelong resident of St. John passed away on March 2, 2015 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John Community Building with a light lunch to follow.

Bob was born on February 8, 1931 to Clarence and Alice (Dole) FitzGerald on his family’s farm near St. John.

He grew up on the family farm and attended the local schools, graduating from St. John High School in 1949.

He married Edna Koch of Ewan on July 24, 1950 in Lewiston, Idaho.

He worked for, and retired from, the Whitman County Road Department as a supervisor for his district.

Bob enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and in his later years, his trips downtown to enjoy his favorite ice cream at the “Last Straw”.

He was a 50 year plus member of the Wheatland Grange and a dedicated retired member of the St. John Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Edna FitzGerald at their home in St. John; sons David (Debra) FitzGerald of St. John and Sam (Julie) FitzGerald of Pomeroy and his daughters Kay (Bill) Auvil of Oakesdale and Gayle (Dave) Harwood of Walla Walla.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Travis (Erin) Harwood, Jessie (Rob) Albertsen, Jordyn Auvil, Raymond (Shelby) FitzGerald, Alyssa FitzGerald, Megan (Jesse) Tennent, Michelle FitzGerald and Matt FitzGerald as well as great-grandsons Kieran Harwood and Owen Albertsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard.

Memorial contributions in Bob’s honor are suggested to the St. John Volunteer Fire Department.
