Obituary: Mellor, Eleanore L.

MELLOR, Eleanore L. (Elli) Elli was born on a farm near Kaulwitz, Germany (Kowalowice, Poland) on August 21, 1929 to Joseph and Agnes (nee: Mellor) Nawroth.

She met her husband of 60 years while he was stationed with the Air Force in Germany.

Elli came to the United States in 1960, with their three small children in tow.

She did not speak much English, but became fluent in speaking, reading, and writing.

Elli never lost her German accent.

She was known far and wide for her gourmet cooking.

She frequently received phone calls from friends as far away as Australia to provide cooking instructions over the phone.

Her potato salad was to die for.

You’ve never tasted roast beef or sauerkraut until you’ve had some of hers!

She will be sorely missed, not just for her cooking, but for her sharp sense of right and wrong, and her inability to tolerate slackers.

Elli is preceded in death by her son Daniel.

She is survived by her husband Richard (Dick), sons Volker and Michael; her six grandchildren: Lonnie, Alisha, Cody, Lacy, Jennifer and Stephanie, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brother, Erhard Nawroth and family, as well as her sister, Waltraut Mahla and her family, who all reside in Germany.

Viewing will be held on Friday, March 6th, from 10am to 5pm and the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 7th, at 11am.

Both will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA.
