In brief: Marc Gasol’s jumper gives Grizzlies victory

Marc Gasol made a jumper with 0.1 seconds left to give the visiting Memphis Grizzlies a 102-100 victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.

With the game tied, Gasol blocked James Harden’s layup with 6.4 seconds left to give the Grizzlies the ball back for his winner. Gasol finished with 21 points.

The win extended the Grizzlies’ lead over second-place Houston in the Southwest Division and tied the season series at 2.

Terrence Jones had 21 points and Harden scored 18 in his return after a one-game suspension for kicking LeBron James on Sunday.

• James scores 29 as Cavaliers beat Raptors: LeBron James scored 29 points and matched a season high with 14 assists, Kevin Love had 22 points and 10 rebounds and the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers held on late to beat the Toronto Raptors 120-112.

Kyrie Irving scored 26, J.R. Smith had 15 and James Jones added 14 as the Cavaliers won their second straight.

Jonas Valanciunas and Lou Williams both scored 26 points and DeMar DeRozan had 25 for the Raptors, who lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Senators ground Jets behind rookie goalie

NHL: Rookie Andrew Hammond made 35 saves, and Kyle Turris had a goal and assist as the Ottawa Senators beat the Jets 3-1 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Bobby Ryan and Erik Condra also scored for Ottawa.

The Senators are 6-0-1 in their last seven games. With 67 points, Ottawa is four points out of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Michael Frolik netted the only goal against Hammond.

• Ducks shut down Montreal to take NHL lead: John Gibson made 37 saves, and the Ducks moved back atop the overall NHL standings with a 3-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens in Anaheim, California, in a meeting of conference leaders.

Anaheim has won four straight games and seven of eight overall.

Despite playing its third game in four nights, Anaheim shut down the Eastern Conference’s top team to open a two-point lead over Nashville and a four-point margin over Montreal.

• Zidlicky’s OT goal gives Red Wings win: Marek Zidlicky’s power-play goal 1:09 into overtime lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the visiting New York Rangers.

Zidlicky was making his Red Wings debut after being acquired at the NHL trade deadline from New Jersey.

Justin Abdelkader also scored and Jimmy Howard made 39 saves for Detroit. Dan Girardi scored for New York.

• Panthers call up 2 goalies with Luongo, Montoya hurt: The Florida Panthers will be without injured goalies Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya for at least tonight’s game against Dallas and possibly longer.

The Panthers recalled Dan Ellis from San Antonio of the AHL and Sam Brittain from Cincinnati of the ECHL.

Luongo and Montoya were both hurt during Tuesday’s loss to Toronto. Florida is two points behind Boston for the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference.

Allen’s season-best effort lifts No. 3 Duke

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Freshman Grayson Allen scored a season-best 27 points, and No. 3 Duke routed Wake Forest 94-51 in Durham, North Carolina, for its 10th straight win.

Matt Jones added 17 points for the Blue Devils as they locked up the No. 2 seed in next week’s ACC tournament.

Codi Miller-McIntyre scored 20 points for Wake Forest, which has lost four of five.

• No. 12 Notre Dame tops No. 16 Louisville: Demetrius Jackson scored 21 points and No. 12 Notre Dame made its final seven shots to pull away for a 71-59 victory over No. 16 Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, clinching third place in the ACC.

Jerian Grant added 12 points and Steve Vasturia had 10.

Montrezl Harrell had 23 points for the Cardinals.

• Matta ties school wins mark in victory: D’Angelo Russell scored 28 points and coach Thad Matta tied the school record for wins in No. 23 Ohio State’s 77-67 victory over Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania.

Matta is 297-91 in 11 seasons at Ohio State, tied with Fred Taylor.

Matta’s next win would give him the Buckeyes mark as well as his 400th career victory.

Penn State senior D.J. Newbill scored 17 points to eclipse the 2,000-point mark for his career.

U.S. defeats Norway 2-1 at Algarve Cup

Soccer: Carli Lloyd scored two goals and the U.S. women’s national team opened the Algarve Cup in Vila Real de San Antonio, Portugal, with a 2-1 victory over Norway.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, Lloyd evened the match with a goal in the 56th minute before putting the U.S. ahead on a penalty kick about 6 minutes later.
