State 2B Girls Hardwood Classic – Day 2 capsules

Colfax 49, Napavine 40

A day after a disappointing loss to White Swan, the Colfax girls got off to a rough start in their consolation game on Friday.

The Bulldogs, however, eventually got it together and beat Napavine to stay alive in the 2B bracket.

Amara Huber had team highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds and Colfax overcame an eight-point first-quarter deficit. The Bulldogs closed out the third quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 35-30 lead, and they pulled away in the fourth.

Huber’s 3-pointer with 6:43 left in the fourth put Colfax on top 40-31, and the Tigers managed just two points through the next 4 minutes.

Napavine’s Devanie Kleemyer had 15 points and nine rebounds and Rylee White chipped in 12 points and five boards. The Tigers made just 5 of 20 second-half shots, including 2 of 12 3-point attempts.

Toutle Lake 48, Mabton 45

Samantha Woodley scored 23 points and hit four free throws in the final 17 seconds as Toutle Lake erased an eight-point halftime deficit and edged Mabton in a 2B consolation game.

Woodley hit two from the line with 16.9 seconds left to put the Ducks on top 46-45. She made two more with 2.2 seconds left to cap the scoring. Mabton’s Irene Pineda heaved a half-court buzzer-beater, but it was off the mark.

Ashlynn Dean added 12 points and six rebounds for Toutle Lake, which will play Colfax in today’s fourth-sixth place game.

Okanogan 43, White Swan 33

Jill Townsend helped keep Okanogan unbeaten as the Bulldogs advanced past White Swan.

Townsend hit her season average with 20 points, and also grabbed eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs grabbed the lead for good with a 9-0 run over the third and fourth quarters to lead 31-23. Caydeen Diefenbach started the spurt with a three-point play, and Townsend added a pair of buckets.

Townsend had eight in the fourth quarter, and the Cougars never really threatened a comeback.

Jordyn Boesel added 13 points on 6 of 6 free-throw shooting. Cayla Jones had a team-best 12 points and five boards for White Swan.

Wahkiakum 59, La Conner 51

Kaylee Bryant had 20 points, and Wahkiakum staged a dramatic rally to knock off previously unbeaten La Conner in overtime.

The Mules trailed by 10 entering the fourth, but took the lead as Peyton Souvenir hit a pair of 3-pointers and Bailey Olsen added another during a 13-2 run.

The Braves retook the lead and went up four after Kamea Pino’s layup in traffic with 1:18 left, but Tori Wegdahl made two shots, the last after a scramble with five seconds left, to force the extra session.

In overtime, Olsen and Sam Boyce both connected on 3-pointers, and Bryant scored two buckets inside to help the Mules move on.

Wahkiakum made nine 3-pointers as a team with Souvenir and Olsen making three apiece.

Adiya Jones had nine rebounds to go along with her team-best 19 points for La Conner.
