EWU wins at buzzer - again

Two nights after fellow senior Melissa Williams buried a game-winner in the closing seconds, senior Hayley Hodgins played copycat scoring on a pull-up jumper with 3 seconds remaining – this time in overtime – giving Eastern Washington a 64-62 Senior Day victory over Weber State in Cheney.

The victory allowed the Eagles (19-10, 12-6) to secure the No. 4 seed at next week’s Big Sky Tournament, and their 19 wins tied the most in a season during head coach Wendy Schuller’s 13 years with the university.

Hodgins scored a game-high 18 points and Melissa Williams recorded her 12th double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, for the Eagles, who will face fifth-seeded Northern Arizona.

Jalen Carpenter led Weber State (11-18, 6-12) with 14 points.

Idaho 77, Idaho State 53: Stacey Barr scored a game-high 27 points in her last career home game and the Vandals cruised by the Bengals in Moscow.

Despite the victory, and being tied with Idaho State (8-10, 13-16), the Vandals (8-10, 14-15) will miss out on the Big Sky Tournament due to the conference’s tiebreaking procedures.

Idaho junior Ali Forde finished the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Pac-12

(19) Stanford 59, (9) Arizona State 56: Amber Orrange scored 18 points, Taylor Greenfield’s driving basket with 44 seconds left gave the Cardinals the lead for good and Stanford held off the Sun Devils (27-5) in the Pac-12 Conference tournament semifinals in Seattle.

Orrange scored 15 points in the first half and was part of Stanford’s decisive run midway through the second half that turned a four-point lead into a 13-point advantage.

The championship game will pair Bay Area rivals Stanford and California. The Golden Bears defeated Colorado 68-55 in Saturday’s late semifinal.
