In brief: Tyler Johnson strikes OT goal for Lightning

NHL: Tyler Johnson scored about a minute into overtime to lift visiting Tampa Bay over Montreal 1-0 in a battle between Eastern Conference leaders on Tuesday night.

Johnson (Central Valley H.S., Chiefs) took his own rebound and saw the puck go in off defenseman Tom Gilbert’s skate. It was Johnson’s 25th goal and he leads the Lightning with 65 points. He entered Tuesday’s games tied for seventh in the NHL points race.

The Lightning (42-20-6) won a fourth straight game and are now one point behind conference-leading Montreal (42-18-7).

The 21,000 fans in Montreal were treated to hockey at a frantic pace, but no goals through three periods between two of the Eastern Conference’s fastest teams.

The Lightning had a 35-19 shot advantage, including 10-2 in the third period.

James leads win sans headband

NBA: Even without his trademark headband, LeBron James had 27 points and took over sole possession of the Cavaliers’ career assists record as visiting Cleveland beat Dallas 127-94.

James, who eschewed his headband in the second quarter of Saturday’s win over Phoenix, was one of four players with more than 20 points for the Central Division-leading Cavaliers, who have won 12 of their last 13 games against Western Conference opponents and broke a 14-game losing streak in Texas.

Kyrie Irving scored 22 points, while Kevin Love had 21 points and 14 rebounds. J.R. Smith also scored 21 points.

Stuckey roars off bench: Reserve Rodney Stuckey (EWU) had 34 points, six rebounds and seven assists, and Indiana beat Orlando 118-86 at Indianapolis for its sixth straight victory.

Stuckey made a career-best six 3-pointers in the first half.

Leonard powers hot Spurs: Kawhi Leonard had 24 points, 11 rebounds and matched a career high with five steals, and host San Antonio withstood a second-half letdown to beat Toronto 117-107 for its sixth straight victory.

Whiteside suspended for elbowing Olynyk: The NBA has announced that Miami center Hassan Whiteside has been suspended one game without pay for elbowing Boston center Kelly Olynyk (Gonzaga).

Whiteside elbowed Olynyk in the back of the neck in the third quarter of Boston’s 100-90 win over Miami on Monday night.

At the final buzzer, Courtney Banghart and her Tigers could finally celebrate their remarkable feat – going 30-0.

After a subdued celebration Saturday when the Tigers beat Columbia to clinch the Ivy title, Princeton enjoyed the 55-42 win over Penn.
