San Francisco scores first run off GU’s David Bigelow to beat Gonzaga

San Francisco finally figured out Gonzaga’s David Bigelow and parlayed it into a 4-3 victory Monday at GU and a 2-1 margin in the rain-interrupted West Coast Conference-opening baseball series.

Bigelow, Gonzaga’s senior relief pitcher, ran a no-hit streak to 92/3 innings by retiring the side in order in the sixth, seventh and eighth before the Dons got to him to snap a 3-3 tie.

Derek Atkinson, who had a three-run homer in the third, hit a leadoff single in the ninth and three batters later Ross Puskarich doubled to score Atkinson from second with the go-ahead run and the first run off Bigelow this season.

Sam Brown hit his first homer for GU, a solo shot in the fifth, in a 2-for-4 day.
