MLB notes: Yu Darvish surgery goes as expected

Associated Press

Yu Darvish had his season-ending elbow surgery Tuesday, when the torn ligament from the Texas Rangers ace’s right arm was replaced with a tendon from his forearm.

The Rangers say Dr. James Andrews reported elbow ligament-replacement surgery went as expected, with no complications.

Andrews was the last of three doctors to review images of the 28-year-old pitcher’s elbow. Darvish announced Friday that he was having Tommy John surgery, but said he had made up his mind about that after the first doctor recommended the procedure.

Trout clouts two

Mike Trout hit two homers and drove in six runs, emergency fill-in Drew Rucinski set down the first 12 Colorado Rockies batters, and the Los Angeles Angels cruised to a 11-0 win Tuesday.

Trout followed his two-run shot off David Hale in the fifth with a three-run drive off Brett Marshall an inning later. The 2014 A.L. MVP added an RBI groundout that has him at .545 with three homers and 10 RBIs in nine spring games.
