EVMS students tops in improv at tournament

Four teams of East Valley Middle School students recently competed at the regional Destination Imagination tournament as part of the East Valley Planned Enrichment Program, the district’s K-8 highly capable program. Team Insert Name Here, with members Noah Haight, Anthony Rupp, Gage Nielsen, Trevor Weberg, Ethan Downing and Ben Fetters, placed first in the improvisational challenge and will move on to the upcoming state competition in Wenatchee.

They impressed judges with their project, called the “Improv Games,” which required the team to incorporate an improv game, a street performance, a setting and a scenario in a two-minute improvisational skit.

Destination Imagination gives students the chance to incorporate STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and the arts into the problem-solving process.

The Ferris High School Dance Team also qualified to go to state competition after placing third in the pom category.
