Obituary: Smathers, Frank A.

Age 85

SMATHERS, Frank A.

Of Spokane Valley, WA, passed away on March 12, 2015.

He was born in Oakland, CA, on July 20, 1929, to James Allison and Madge Smathers.

At age two, the family relocated to Marysville, WA.

He had two siblings, Janet Burns and Vivian Bunten.

Janet passed away in 1991.

Frank married Arelene Jeske, of Peshastin, WA, on March 8, 1955.

He married Arlene Stephens (the love of his life) of Wallace, ID on June 21, 1980.

The couple made Otis Orchards, WA their home.

Arlene preceded him in death in December 2000 and stepson Donny in 1980.

Frank was a Navy and Air Force Veteran, serving during Korea and the Vietnam War.

He retired from the Air Force in 1969.

He is survived by his children from Arelene Jeske: Ramona and David Shogren, Mark Smathers and Theresa Sanders, Kevin Smathers, Jana and Ed Wogulis, Jolayne and Scott Christner; and his stepchildren from Arlene Stephens, Keith, Donny, Ron and Shari Layton, and Terresa and Don Harter.

He had 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Frank loved his family, was proud of his Military service, and was the ultimate Seahawks fan.

He will be cheering on the Hawks from heaven every Sunday.

There will be a viewing March 27th 12-5PM atThornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd.

and a Military funeral, Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 100pm, at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery.

A celebration of life will follow at Jenny’s CafÄ‚Ĺ  in Spokane Valley.

Remembrances can be made to the Lung Cancer Society and Feed the Vets.
