Readers lead the way to the trail

The Opening Day for Trails event scheduled for Saturday includes hikes and bike rides around the region. We asked our Facebook friends to reveal their favorite places to hike in the Inland Northwest. Here’s what they said:

Shnannon Malbo

Camp Caro at Dishman Hills Natural Area

Faith Masiello

Bob Salsbury

1. Saltese Uplands Loop with my 5-year-old where she gets to be line leader.

2. Dishman Hills during the wildflower extravaganza and hidden tiny ponds and noisy frogs (in other words, NOW).

3. Liberty Lake Loop and Iller Creek: For when you just gotta pretend you don’t live in a hell world of astringent post-basalt wasteland transition zones and can almost feel the moistness of the verdant and magical forests of the wet side of the state.

4. Mineral Ridge: Great views, nice incline, old mines, seasonal bald eagles, game trails.

5. Upper Priest Lake trails: When canoe or kayak camping, the trails around Upper Priest are a blast and you could easily be killed and eaten by grizzlies so it adds to the electric wonder of knowing you are in the food chain and not at the top!

Jason Montgomery

Steptoe Butte – full 360 degree view of the great Palouse area and multiple types of animals and range to enjoy. No real trail where I walk but it’s amazing.
