Climate data conclusive

I appreciate the placement of the March 20 article “Obama moves ahead on climate change” on page 3, right across from “$1 billion plan to battle drought in California.”

I learned about global warming in the mid-1980s when it was a scientific issue, not a political issue. Then the posturing, pontification and pooh-poohing began: Cutting emissions would cost millions, they said; the data is not conclusive, they said; the planet goes through natural cycles, they said.

It turns out not addressing the problem will cost billions. The data are conclusive, there is consensus, and weather is not the same as climate. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. When you add more of it to the atmosphere, global warming – man-made global warming – occurs.

What do we say now, and, more importantly, what are we going to do?
