Informed med school view
Regarding Washington State University’s future Spokane medical school: Your readers would be better served listening to the mature and authoritative words of Dr. Francisco Velazquez, chief executive officer of Pathology Associates Medical Laboratories, than to those of Alex Hoffman, pre-med student from Whitworth University (“WSU playing games,” April 28).
In a March 26 article in the Spokane Journal of Business, Velazquez recalls his more than 30 years of experience, having held academic, administrative and executive appointments at medical schools in New York, Texas, Michigan and Boston. He speaks from a position of experience and authority.
Velazquez provides a very convincing argument that the WSU Medical School in Spokane is about much more than just training physicians. He argues that Spokane should actively support WSU’s vision to grow a full medical school here that will be designed to serve as an economic engine.
For anyone truly concerned about the “health of the Inland Northwest” versus their own self-interest, the article by Velazquez is a great read.
It is full of facts and a broader perspective than the one shared by Hoffman, whose high opinion of WSU is ill-founded.
