Obituary: Gookstetter, Zona Pauline

GOOKSTETTER, Zona Pauline MAY 12, 1915 - APRIL 24, 2015 Zona P. Gookstetter passed away peacefully in her sleep April 24, 2015.

She was born in Halfway Oregon to Ada and Samuel Garlinghouse on May 12, 1915.

Zona worked as an accountant for many years at local firms and eventually became a programmer for NCR Corporation in Spokane.

Zona was active in the National Secretaries Association and served as President.

When she retired she travelled extensively with friends.

Zona lived in Hawaii, Arizona, Oregon and returned to Spokane in later years.

She was the guiding light for her family and the center of many wonderful celebrations including a celebration of her life held at the Glover Mansion on her 80th birthday.

She is survived by two daughters, Wendy Burley (Lorne), Kristi Zane (Terry), four grandchildren: Barry Long, Bruce Long, Barbra Gradus, Brian Long; five great-grandchildren, and four great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest daughter, Jeri.

A family gathering in her honor will be held later this spring for her 100th birthday.

Special thanks go to her grandson Barry Long and to Avalon Care Center Pasco for her excellent final care.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the Spokane Guild School.

She will be deeply missed by friends and family.
