Obituary: Sullivan, Pauline S.

SULLIVAN, Pauline S. November 29, 1922 to May 1, 2015 Life’s 92 year journey from London to Spokane concluded recently for one of our town’s last World War II English War Brides.

Pauline Stella Sullivan passed peacefully early Friday morning in the presence of her two remaining children, Maureen Horn and Terry Sullivan, and caregiver Kathleen Sullivan.

She was at peace and ready to reunite with her Maker, husband Chuck, son Barry, parents and brother, and her school chums.

Knowing that her work on earth is complete and that the angels have delivered her helps us accept her departure.

Pauline married Chuck in London in 1945 while he completed his tour in the U.S. Army Air Corp. She and her mother were evacuated to Cardiff, Wales during the bombings in London.

After giving birth to her first son, she journeyed from London in 1946 to her new home in Spokane.

Here, she gave birth to Maureen and Barry, became a naturalized citizen, joined the English War Brides Club and became a Spokanite.

Pauline “did it her way” as she adjusted to her new homeland, retaining her English accent, 4 o’clock tea, and active engagement in the Methodist Church.

She is survived by Maureen and John Horn, Terry and Kathleen Sullivan, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and reception will be held 10:30AM Saturday May 9th at Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 East 65th Avenue, Spokane.
