Age 90

WESSELMAN, Edmund A.

(Age 90) Peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 30, 2015, surrounded by his beloved wife, Marie, of 63 years, sons and many other family members.

Born December 8, 1924, to Fred and Katherine Wesselman in LaCrosse, WA, the third of six children, Ed graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1943.

He was drafted into the Army 347th Infantry Regiment, Golden Acorn 87th Infantry Division in 1944, and bravely served in Germany at the Battle of the Bulge.

Honorably discharged in 1945, Ed returned to the family farm in LaCrosse, later settling in Leahy Junction, WA, in 1950 to farm his sister’s wheat ranch.

Ed and Marie married in 1951, lovingly raised six sons, and proudly farmed the ranch for the next 50 years, earning multiple conservation awards.

Ed served on the school board, was a member of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, and a Eucharistic minister in the Catholic Church.

Moving to Spokane in 2004, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Ed was a grateful recipient of the Honor Flight Network, traveling to Washington DC in 2011.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law and sister (Archie and Mary Ann Barry), and brother (James Wesselman), Ed is survived by his wife, Marie; brothers Fred (Lorene), Ray (Dee); sister Janet (Joe) Parker; sister-in-law Sharon Wesselman; sons Roger, Ron (Joy), Robert (Tracy), Randy (Anita), Rodney, and Ric (Judy); 14 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A Catholic Service will be held at 10:00am on May 5, 2015, at St. Joseph Parish, 3720 E. Colbert Rd., Colbert, WA 99005.

Committal service will follow at 2:00pm at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA 99022.

The family asks that in lieu of gifts or flowers, donations be made in Ed’s name to the Honor Flight Network or Wounded Warrior Project.
